Abstract
The enormous technological development has made the computerized gadgets wearable and enhanced them with special and distinct functional abilities. The robotic, molecules and Nano technologies scientific development in recent years; which produced intelligent, simulating and invisible materials among other elements; has helped in developing electronics and in minimizing their sizes to the extent that allows them to be integrated in all wearables. Jewelry is one of the distinctive wearables, due to its various sizes, their intimacy and close proximity to the human body, which allow more interaction with its wearer. Although jewelry has a simple and limited function as adornments; it also symbolizes special life events or parts of our history. Wedding rings, memorable pendants or inherited pieces of jewelry which we may never wear, remind us of their previous owners, the events during which they have worn them and our feelings towards them. The combination between micro-computers and increased computerized power has allowed many enterprises to start producing contemporary, creative, interactive and intelligent jewelry; known as the digital jewelry. The integration between both concepts of jewelry design and interactive design; can enhance the processes of contemporary jewelry design, as well as discovering substitutes to the traditional applications of technology. Research problem: The research seeks to alter the traditional approaches used by jewelry designers; and make them depend more on the ideas and concepts appropriate with interactive design and digital technology, in order to make jewelry design a real equivalent to the rapid changes that are a major feature of our time. There are also obvious differences between the digital jewelry prototypes designed by electrical engineers and industrial designers and those designed by jewelry designers, although both have some shortages and disadvantages. This is why the research attempts to study the usage and sensory demands of the jewelry wearer to standardize them artistically and structurally. Research objective: The research aims to find an integrated relation between digital technology and the art of jewelry design within the range of the novel demands of the user. Research significance: - Utilizing digital technology and interactive design concepts in creating new approaches that can be used to design jewelry. - Unfolding new horizons that lead to different life and usable applications of contemporary jewelry design. Research themes: - Identification of digital technology and interactive design. - Terminology concerned with digital jewelry. - Requirements of digital jewelry design.
