Abstract
In an analytical study carried out by the Council in eleven leading companies in the world, where researchers visited the design departments in these companies, the results emerged with amazing similarities and common approaches among designers. One of them is mapping the design process that relies on divergent/convergent thinking, which is the Double Diamond methodology. The Double Diamond of the Design Council conveys the Design process for designers and non-designers. Double Diamond is the process of exploring a broader or deeper issue (divergent thinking) and then taking focused actions (converging thinking). Discover: The first diamond helps people understand the problem instead of assuming it. It involves talking and spending time with people affected by the issues.  Define: The vision gathered from the discovery stage can help define the challenge differently. Develop: The second diamond encourages people to give different answers to the identified problem, seek inspiration from elsewhere, and share a design with a group of different people. Delivery: Delivery includes testing various solutions on a small scale, rejecting those that will not work, and improving solutions that will succeed. Study Objective: Re-introducing the Double Diamond methodology as a metaphor for the Design Process, contributing to setting the time frame of the process on one side and taking advantage of hyperlink/convergence thinking on the other side. Methodology: The research follows the Inductive Approach. Study Problem: Thinking about the design process must be compatible with contemporary information technology data that prevails in speed and accuracy, so the big-time lost in the design process is the cornerstone of the progress or delay of the process, and here shows the role of a vital and critical time in the design process. The Double Diamond methodology as a metaphor model for the Design Process needs to be re-displayed in a way that maximizes its utilization and generalizes its use in the design fields in general and the industrial design field in particular. Study Findings: The representation of the Double Diamond methodology as a metaphor model helped shorten the time in the Design Process. The possibility of employing the Double Diamond methodology in the fields of design in general, and the field of industrial design in particular, according to the designer's need in the design process.  The need to use hyperlinked and convergent thinking in the design process, to reach problem-solving in the shortest possible time. Double Diamond is a clear, comprehensive, and visual description of the design process, providing designers and non-designers with the basic principles and design methods they need.
