Abstract
This research aims to categorise characteristics of an interior designer and identify the most salient aspects of this job and the requirements of the labour market through the study of design management requirements in the professional field as well as the analysis of sequential planning to implement the project.
The descriptive-analytical method was implemented to achieve the aim and answer the main research question: what is the nature and main characteristics of the interior designer’s profile? The researcher concludes that there are six key points to analyse, including the practical side, scientific research, analytical and problem-solving features, service requirements, administrative abilities, impressionist skills and technical capabilities.
Finally, this research clarified essential knowledge and skills for project management and classified a set of capabilities required in the practice of this profession. These are specialised capabilities that perpetuate the scientific aspects of this career and the educational process that requires a specialist designer to develop. Designers will need to demonstrate acquisition of technical and creative skills interconnected with communication capabilities that will enable effective relationships to be established, honed and maintained.
