The Problematic of Parametric Applications as an Approach to Parametricism
Since last century, Design Process has experienced a quantum shift through progress in knowledge and technology, where contemporary aspects of design related to the development of digital technology.While designers have employed computer-aided design (CAD) systems for decades, only recently have two distinct and potent design sensibilities – parametric and algorithmic design – emerged in the early 1990s. At the same time, there was a strong, global convergence in avant-garde architecture justifies the enunciation of a new style: Parametricism. Aesthetically, it is the elegance of ordered complexity and the sense of seamless fluidity, akin to natural systems that constitute the hallmark of Parametricismthat evidenced at all scales from architecture to interior design to large urban design. It is a style rooted in digital animation techniques, its latest refinements based on advanced parametric, algorithmic design systems and scripting methods.However, what confronts us is a new style rather than merely a new set of techniques. The techniques in question have inspired a new collective movement with radically new ambitions and values.Together parametric and algorithmic design are opening up a new field of possibilities for design practice. However, there remains considerable confusion about the meaning of the two terms and about the meaning of Parametricism - that establish a completely new design process and methodology - in particular.Thus the research problem is identified (the two design tools – parametric and algorithmic design – are often confused, and sometimes collapsed into the single term, ‘Parametricism’, the need for a clear and specific knowledge of the recent common contemporary tendencies within design practices around the world). Thus determine the research goals as (first: identifying the meaning of parametric design, second: identifying the meaning of algorithmic design, finally: explaining the conceptual and operational definition of Parametricism and the phases of its evolution). That required a methodology of solving the research problem consist of four stages (first: an analytical description for parametric design, second: analytical description of algorithmic design third: description of the conceptual & the operational definition of Parametricism. fourth: a theoretical framework for the evolution of this style). Which concluding the effectiveness of the parametric and algorithmic approaches in addition to the methodological rules of Parametricism that offer guiding principles will allow the design process to fast-forward in direction of the elegance of complexity and fluidity to meet the demands of the latest avant-garde tendency; finally, the research presents conclusions and recommendations.
