Design Values in the Interior Architecture of Suakin: An Analytical Study of Aesthetic and Functional Elements
This study seeks to explore the underlying design values embedded in the interior designs of Suakin architecture, as a heritage model that reflects human interaction with the local environment through unique and historically rich architectural patterns. The study focused on analyzing the aesthetic and functional elements that form the core of this architecture, aiming to uncover the cultural and environmental identity expressed in the interior spaces of traditional buildings in the city of Suakin, while shedding light on the detailed aspects of design such as materials, colors, and decorative motifs that convey symbolic and social messages. The descriptive-analytical methodology was adopted to study selected samples of these buildings and analyze their design components in terms of form, functionality, and visual symbolism. The findings revealed that Suakin architecture is characterized by a harmonious integration of beauty and function, reflecting a value system deeply rooted in local customs and achieving a clear balance between humans and their surroundings. The study concludes with the importance of drawing inspiration from these values in contemporary interior design practices, contributing to the enhancement of cultural identity and the realization of environmental and social sustainability, while supporting the continuity of heritage within modern urban contexts.
