Designing Clothing Accessories Inspired by Saudi Heritage Motifs to Achieve Functional and Aesthetic Performance

Abstract

Saudi Arabia continues to advance its ambitious objectives under Vision 2030, with a particular emphasis on the celebration and preservation of its rich cultural heritage. This heritage is distinguished by an extensive array of artistic treasures, exemplified most notably by traditional motifs. These motifs are characterized by their unique standards, regulations, vibrant color schemes, distinctive spirit, and rhythmic patterns. They serve as enduring manifestations of beauty and creativity, while reflecting a refined artistic sensibility. This study aims to present design proposals for clothing accessories inspired by the motifs of Saudi heritage, particularly the art of Al-Qatt Al-Asiri. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical method alongside an applied study, which examines and analyzes the patterns of Al-Qatt Al-Asiri and utilizes its aesthetics to enhance clothing accessories, specifically women’s driving gloves. The study developed 14 proposed designs aimed at appealing to women drivers in Saudi Arabia. The findings revealed statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level among the proposed designs, with "Design Four" receiving the highest preference. This design was particularly favored by both specialists and consumers for its ability to combine aesthetic and functional qualities effectively. The study recommended further research to explore the integration of traditional motifs from different regions of Saudi Arabia into the design of clothing accessories.
