Abstract
The carpet industry, both manual and mechanical, depends on a very important factor to prepare its structural elements in a proper and thoughtful manner, which is a scientific study to achieve the aesthetic and functional effect. Hence, the research problem can be summarized in obtaining high-strength carpets that are less susceptible to corrosion as a result of pressure and friction by taking advantage of the properties of wool fibers and blending wool fibers with polypropylene fibers. To achieve this aim, (15) samples were produced using Hand-Taft method using different materials, densities, heights and pile. The research methodology relies on the experimental and analytical method and the study between the relationships of both of them. The study yielded some results, the most important of which are: First, The best samples of wool blended with polypropylene, which achieved the lowest percentage of wear loss. Second, the higher density of the pile, this leads to an increase in durability and less wear of the carpet. Finally, Achieve to the benefit of simple geometric shapes to obtain designs that correspond to the general taste of the carpets made.Research Problem:Woven floor furnishings, especially the pile, are more susceptible to abrasion due to pressure and friction, which affects the appearance of the carpet and reduces its life span. Therefore, presenting a scientific and practical study to reach the best sample mixed of local wool with polypropylene fibers to achieve functional and aesthetic performance is one of the important studies, In addition, to reach the lowest percentage of the erosion of the pile as a result of pressure and friction.Research Objectives:Benefiting from the different properties of wool (retaining odors - resistance to ignition - lack of soiling) and optimizing the use of local wool in the production of hand tuft carpets. Also, providing solutions to the problem of carpet erosion by mixing wool with polypropylene to obtain new specifications, which were not encountered in the production of wool carpets only.Methodology: The research follows the experimental-analytical method. Conclusion:This research discussed the properties of local wool and the method of manufacturing handmade carpets by tufting, relying on geometric shapes in the design (square - circle - triangle), to create designs of the carpets to aim benefit from them in the three-dimensional design in different ways in line with public taste. The focus of the study was on the possibility of mixing propylene fibers with wool and arrive to the best mixing ratio between them, which yield to the least error rate in actual and expected losses at pile pressure and friction of the carpet produced. The study recommends to researching new mixing ratios with wool fibers and comparing them with the results of this research. And arrive to the maximum possible benefit from local wool.
